Friday Foodie Post...

I've been preparing for a better meal planning routine and needed a bit of inspiration. Sara had recommended picking up Food & Wine magazine's latest issue, which was full of recipes featuring "healthy new ingredients". Perfect. What caught my eye were the recipes from Sera Pelle, (Executive Chef at Echo Park's gastropub Mohawk Bend) and her family farm in the Hollywood Hills. I had to try her Potato and Wild Salmon Cakes with Ginger & Scallions. I used my circular cookie cutter to make the cakes. Perfect tool! :)
Made Sera's Dill Sauce and made some Coconut Jasmine Rice (from Steamy Kitchen's recipe here).
There are a few more recipes in the March issue that are on my radar for the weeks to come....

Can't wait! Have a wonderful weekend! :)

Scenes from Morro Bay...

J & I headed north just 3 hours up the coast to Morro Bay for much needed R & R (and a belated anniversary getaway!). We drove into town around lunch and went to Taco Temple for some good grub!! I had the Grilled Cod Tacos. Yum. Yum.
Stayed at the intimate Beach Bungalow Inn & Suites. Great place with a yummy breakfast for 2 included at a local restaurant for two mornings at Frankie & Lola's Front Street Cafe.

Spent most of our time exploring different beaches. We especially loved going to Montana de Oro State Park. We biked the Bluff Trail along the jagged coast. Ab-so-lute-ly beautiful.
Tide pool discoveries....Starfish, sea anemones, sea urchins, coral....
Went on a movie date at the town's theater. Wonderful vintage theater - refurbished and so lovely! Showing one movie - Hugo. It was great! Oh the design details in the Paris scenes.....
Spontaneous trip to the driving range...
(I think I was the only one driving in skinny pants and Converse.....hehe)
Saw some pups near Piedras Blancas....
Ate a delish lunch at Wild Ginger in Cambria (The owner is from Singapore and creates wonderful Asian Fusion dishes. I had the Thai Grilled Beef Salad with Roasted Beets, Radishes, Mint & Cilantro....mmmmm)
Had a dockside sunset dinner at Tognazzini's with some BBQ'd Oysters in Garlic Butter Sauce. Oh my!
Loved the beautiful winter beach days. Sunny without a trace of fog. Refreshed and ready to take on what's ahead! :)

Meditative Monday...

It's been a while since I've written one of these...but over the weekend I had a conversation that has me in an introspective mood. It made me think of this word: stopgap. The definition is ~ an improvised substitute; a temporary way of dealing with a problem or satisfying a need.

Sometimes life throws us circumstances that are out of our control but what we do have control over is how we will respond or cope. We can create an environment and attitude that will allow things to remain positive and not allow something to stop us completely in our tracks - because that's what we just have to do in certain situations. The body & mind are such interesting things....it can take on a pretty high amount of stress and emotion. And it has it's way of releasing it at more opportune times...or sometimes inopportune (i.e. when you're in a crowd of people and just want to hide!). Nevertheless, the body has a way of letting us know it's just getting over something. It's such a comfort to have those close to us who will help you pull through those moments!

And these goodies don't hurt either...
...sometimes they are my stopgap. :)
